Lining is what makes your leather gloves truly comfortable, warm, and elegant. At L’Atelier du Gantier, we only use 100% silk, 100% cashmere, or 100% rabbit fur linings — all sourced from Italy. Here’s everything you need to know to choose the right lining, depending on your needs, the season, and the leather of your gloves.
Silk Lining
Silk is a natural fiber that offers both comfort and light warmth. It’s perfect for maintaining a refined, close fit. Silk linings are thinner than cashmere or rabbit, and ideal for mid-season wear or to keep a sleek silhouette.
Silk is also appreciated for its thermoregulating properties, providing a gentle cocoon for your hands without bulk.

Cashmere is a thick, soft wool that comes from goats in the Kashmir region. It’s one of the most luxurious and effective linings for cold weather. With a cashmere-lined glove, your hands are warmly enveloped in a cocoon of softness and durability.
More insulating than silk, it’s ideal for winter temperatures while still feeling elegant and light on the hand.

Rabbit fur is a rarer, ultra-soft lining made from both the fur and hide. It offers exceptional comfort and warmth, wrapping your hands entirely — right to the fingertips. A refined and stylish choice, rabbit lining often adds a visible cuff for an elegant finish.
Its thickness makes it a warm alternative to cashmere, ideal for those who feel the cold easily.

Your choice depends on when and how you plan to wear your gloves. For driving gloves or everyday city wear in milder seasons, unlined gloves may be perfectly suitable. Leather gloves without lining offer excellent grip, flexibility, and are especially comfortable in spring or fall.
If you're looking for winter gloves to withstand the cold, go for cashmere or rabbit. For a light, elegant touch, silk remains a classic choice. If you prefer a bit of insulation without bulk, try unlined full-grain lambskin gloves.
Does the Leather Type Matter?
Absolutely. Some leathers provide natural insulation or comfort that may not require a lining at all. For example:
- Peccary leather: This wild Amazonian pigskin is supple and incredibly soft. It's the only washable leather, and many wear it without lining. That said, we also offer lined versions for extra warmth.
- Shearling gloves: Reversed lambskin with the wool intact — the warmest gloves we offer, often worn even in extreme cold.
- Lambskin: Our go-to leather — supple, elegant, and naturally insulating. Available with or without lining, depending on your needs.
We deliberately avoid goat, cowhide, or pig leather as they don’t offer the same finesse, softness, or durability. Our commitment: only premium plunging lambskin, with or without lining.
The Threads That Make the Difference
Our gloves are sewn with a soft, elastic cotton-polyester blend thread. This ensures flexible seams that stand the test of time — and every hand movement.
